Opal is the birthstone for October and the accepted gem for the 13th wedding anniversary.

There are many, many superstitions associated with OPAL, here are just a few: Opal is said to hold many powers. Once being worn in amulets to ward off diseases and sickness. It seems that the opal has a magical aura all around the world. The Orientals thought of them as an ‘Anchor of Hope’. The Arabians believed that the opal was a magical stone that had fallen from the skies. An English writer described the opal as having the ‘power of foresight’. Poland believed the opal to have powers to make the wearer invisible and therefore opal was very popular amongst thieves.
